Description
The cathedral of Notre Dame, a work of great Gothic architecture, the Western face was built between 1200-1240, the cathedral suffered from various episodes of destruction including the Huguenots in 1548 destroying works of art considered idolatrous; modernization of the 17th and 18th centuries and the French revolution which saw stain glass windows replaced and larger statues destroyed. The facade of kings are in fact 19th century replacements following their beheading in the French revolution.
